Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail for others to follow. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Joni Abbott has been dubbed “The First Lady of Natural News”.

As a veteran in radio broadcasting, Joni has combined her love for radio and natural health. Homegrown Health is a weekly radio show that pertains to everything “family”. Topics will include a variety of subjects, mostly home-based and that affect today’s families: home-birthing, breastfeeding, baby-wearing, parental rights, vaccine education, home-schooling, home-gardening, raising “homegrown” children, home-steading, alternative healing modalities, inquiry into the many roads of natural health and healing, women’s health and overall lively discussion and interviews that will encourage, empower, strengthen and enlighten families world-wide. Joni Abbott is a mother to four beautiful children.

Joni fell in love with radio broadcasting, at the age of 17 and pursued a career in the industry. After her first natural birth, she also fell in love with natural health and has been on that journey for 11 years…and still learning! She took an 8 year hiatus from broadcasting and studio work to stay at-home with the little ones. During this time, she took the opportunity to delve deeper into studying her passion and applying natural health techniques in her home. Joni will share her experiences and knowledge, in a fun, energetic way that stays true to her personality and passionate interests.

1. What motivates you?
Truth and people, including my children. I really love research and digging down to the root of issues to find the answer to that ever-burning question, “why?” I love people and often wonder about their stories. Radio is the medium that allows me to do what I love and interact with amazing people and share their stories, while sharing what I have learned along the way in my own journey.

2. Describe a difficult situation you were in and how you overcame it?
Being in an abusive marriage for 10 years certainly opened my eyes to changes that were desperately needed in my life. I hadn’t been happy for a long time, lost my voice and in essence, became unrecognizable to myself. I learned to accept responsibility for the choices I made, own up for my part in allowing that lifestyle to be acceptable for so long, excercised my faith and finally decided to say “no more”. It’s been a very difficult situation and I have learned that the only way to heal from it is to go through it, allowing myself to feel every feeling, cry every tear and overcome, including doing everything humanly possible to help my childern through it. The therapeutic process has truly been helpful. I am continuing to overcome, grow as both mother and individual and learning to redefine my journey as a woman in this human experience on earth.

3. What are your goals for the future?
I envision the growth of Homegrown Health as a radio show, as a place to empower people of all ages to take charge of their health and healing all from home. I will expand my website and write a few books on my experiences. The sky is the limit really! I will also be co-hosting 180Radio on 180degreehealth.com. Between radio, speaking engagements and writing, I am optimistic that whatever future endeavors I pursue, there will be a lot of fun!

4. What’s your favorite snack?
I love raw cacoa and coconut oil balls! I don’t snack often but when I do, I usually get a craving for this…or big, fat slice of pizza on ocassion.

5. What is your favorite quote?
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail for others to follow. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
